Stronger National Security

As terrorist threats have become more global, and as our government has squandered both domestic and worldwide reservoirs of goodwill following 9/11, a gap has widened in our national security. Our national security is at risk, and we can and must close the gap with a strong military, sound strategies to defeat terrorists, reduce our dependence on foreign oil, and control loose nukes.

I believe that a strong military, a unified and patriotic people, and an efficient and successful private sector are all critical to a strong defense. I salute the commitment, honor, and dedication of our armed forces. Congress must continue to vigorously strengthen America’s capabilities in the world. We also must recognize that in a complex world, our strength and security as a nation are based on more than military power. National security rests on the economic might of our private enterprise system and our continued pre-eminence in education and science. Even more fundamentally, America’s strength is based on our ability to inspire the human spirit both at home and abroad with our fierce dedication to the principles of freedom, the vitality of our democratic principles of justice and opportunity, and the rule of law.

As the world’s leading power, we are diminished in both our character and in our influence and power in the world when our government unilaterally casts aside the rule of law as our guiding principle. Likewise, our government must not take lightly the value of the worldwide reservoir of goodwill that has been built through the noble efforts and sacrifices of generations of Americans.

See my views on the need for a strong military, defeating terrorists, energy security, and controlling loose nukes.
