Press Release - Ackerson Salutes Indiana Armed Forces

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ackerson Salutes Indiana Armed Forces

May 16, 2008

Nels Ackerson, candidate for United States Congress in Indiana’s 4th District, will be attending the Indiana Blue Star Salute on Saturday, May 17, at O’Reilly Raceway Park in Hendricks County.  He made the following statement in recognition of Armed Forces Day.

Indiana is represented by the finest servicemen and women in the nation.  It is with the deepest gratitude that I offer my thanks to them for their service to our country.  We will not fail to honor the sacrifice that they and their families are making.

Education is one of the benefits promised to our military veterans since World War II.  With unemployment rates for veterans much higher than the rest of the population it is crucial to provide adequate education and job training to individuals as they transition from active duty back to the work force.

On Thursday the House passed a bill that would return the GI Bill education benefit to a level that honors the commitment we have made to our veterans.  I trust that the Senate will also see the importance of keeping up our end of the contract with those who agreed to put their lives on the line for our freedom

.
The men and women in America’s armed forces have placed not just their lives but also their health and their futures on the line to protect our way of life.  In return, we must honor the sacred contract we made with them.
